Arrowe Sound Hospital Radio Announces Exciting New Broadcast Home at Liverpool’s Iconic St John’s Beacon Liverpool,

Arrowe Sound Hospital Radio is delighted to announce that we have officially become the new tenants of one of Liverpool’s most recognisable landmarks, the St John’s Beacon.

Following months of “high-level negotiations”, strategic planning, and several cups of tea, the team at Arrowe Sound can confirm that the tower — previously home to Radio City 96.7 — will now serve as the global broadcasting headquarters for hospital radio.

The move marks an exciting step forward for the volunteer-run station, which broadcasts to patients across the Wirral including those cared for by Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Arrowe Sound’s Station Manager Dave Holt said:
“We felt it was time Arrowe Sound upgraded its studio space. When the opportunity came up to move into the Beacon, we thought — why not? The views are incredible, the signal should reach at least three counties, and we’re confident we can find somewhere to plug the kettle in.”

Support From Liverpool City Council
A spokesperson from Liverpool City Council welcomed the news and praised the station’s ambition:
“Liverpool has always been a city of music and broadcasting innovation. We’re thrilled to welcome Arrowe Sound Hospital Radio to St John’s Beacon. It’s wonderful to see the tower continue its proud radio heritage — even if the presenters now spend half their shift answering requests for ‘anything but hospital food’.”

Beacon Management Respond
Management representatives from St John’s Beacon also confirmed they are pleased to welcome the hospital radio team to the tower.

A Beacon spokesperson said:
“After decades of radio broadcasting from the Beacon, we felt Arrowe Sound were the perfect fit. Their volunteers bring enthusiasm, dedication and — crucially — an impressive collection of 1980s CDs. We’re especially excited about their proposal for the world’s highest hospital radio request line.”

What This Means for Listeners

Listeners can expect several exciting developments following the move, including:

The highest hospital radio studio in the UK

A brand new show: “Beacon Breakfast”, broadcasting high above Liverpool

A slightly longer cable run between the studio and Arrowe Park Hospital

Volunteers achieving their daily fitness goals climbing the tower stairs

Plans are also underway to install a giant illuminated “ON AIR” sign visible across the River Mersey, so ships entering the port know exactly when someone has requested ABBA again.

Continuing a Proud Broadcasting Tradition
The Beacon has been part of Liverpool’s skyline since 1969 and has long been associated with radio broadcasting. Arrowe Sound says it is proud to continue that legacy — while bringing the unique spirit of hospital radio to the heart of the city.

A final statement from the station added:
“We’re honoured to be part of Liverpool’s broadcasting history. Also, the view from the studio is perfect for spotting volunteers who said they were ‘just parking the car five minutes ago’.”

Important Note
Arrowe Sound would like to reassure listeners that patients at Arrowe Park Hospital will still be able to hear the station perfectly clearly — once the team works out which button turns the transmitter on.

And finally…
Before anyone calls asking about studio tours, observation decks, or how to volunteer at the top of a 138-metre tower…

Happy April Fools’ Day from everyone at Arrowe Sound Hospital Radio!
